Montriond is situated between Lake Geneva and Mont Blanc which creates a microclimate of weather fronts bringing extra precipitation to the area. It has the same snow record as Val D’Isere and even during the warm winter seasons Avoriaz tends to hold onto a good snow cover. Also the Morzine-Les Gets side is predominately pastureland and only requires 20cm of snow for good skiing conditions. So if you are planning to ski a lot of the Portes du Soleil, Morzine is a great base town as it has the most extensive local piste of the resorts, with relatively few queues, great off-piste (if you know where to go).

Montriond is located about 1 hour 15 minutes by road from Geneva airport. It is on the French / Swiss boarder just south of Lake Geneva (Lac Leman), and just under an hour from the Italian boarder (via the Mont Blanc tunnel). The best way to get here is to fly to Geneva then hire a car or pre arrange an airport transfer. Although it is also fairly straight forward to drive from the UK.

Winter: Montriond / Morzine is the central resort in the Portes du Soleil, so you can make it your base then go explore Europe’s largest international ski area. Montriond / Morzine itself offers a great variety of pistes for all abilities as well as boasting some of the best off-piste areas in the world. It is so easy to get from Montriond / Morzine straight into Avoriaz which opens up the rest of the Portes du Soleil with huge ski areas and some truly awesome snow parks. To add to this Morzine has some of the most legendry apres ski haunts in the region.

Summer: Montriond / Morzine in summer is a beautiful town with a vibrant spirit. Plus hosts world class mountain biking terrain with over 600kms of marked trails, as well as hosting a loads of MTB competitions and events. Summer in Morzine opens up a wealth of outside activities. Plus for children and families you can take a trip to the farm, observe and join in with local crafts or taste local meats and cheeses from the alpine pastures.
